An interesting trend has taken hold over the past decade and a half or so: Every four years, Americans start frantically Googling “How do I move to Canada?” We’ll leave it to you to connect the dots as to why — but, suffice it to say, interest in our genial northern neighbor is running hotter than ever.
A new ad from Air Canada makes light of our recurring instinct to abandon ship, showing a dramatized ticker of Americans searching for how to move to Canada. Taking a look at actual Google Trends data does, in fact, show a huge spike in March for various search terms related to this phenomenon — a trend significant enough to be acknowledged by Google:
While abruptly moving north of the border might be rash, it’s hard not to support test-driving the country responsible for such delights as poutine, ice hockey, and Drake. So watch the video above and be reminded that Canada will always be there for us, even if only for a visit.
