People who work out a lot tend to talk about exercise like the benefits are obvious. But are they? What exactly are the benefits? Huge arms? Amazing abs? A super-powerful brain muscle? All of the above? Beats me.
To get to the bottom of the mystery and really nail down exactly why working out is good for you, we took a deep dive into the physical effects of the 4-Week Sasquatch Challenge. What does a month’s worth of beaver squats, pike presses, salmon swings, and nonstop jerky-eating look like? Read on to find out.
Fig. 1 — Brain: Studies have shown that exercise reduces stress and anxiety. It also makes you happier, smarter, and more badass. Okay, we made the last two up. But still, flex that brain muscle!
Fig. 2 — Head: Feeling tired all the time? Regular, low-intensity exercise can actually fight fatigue. And you’ll need all the energy you can get if you’re trying to race a raccoon every morning.
Fig. 3 — Shoulders: Shoulder presses like the Pike Press are a super-effective way to gain upper-body strength and improve your posture. Do enough reps and your muscles’ muscles will get muscled (it’s science).
Fig. 4 — Heart: While your heart can’t break boulders over bobcats or sprint down mountains, it’s still a super-strong muscle. And the more you use it, the more powerful it gets. That means, with the right amount of exercise, you’ll lower your risk for heart disease, reduce inflammation, and more.
Fig. 5 — Arms: Want arms that are so big you can catch a pike with your bare hands? You’ll get that with the Sasquatch Challenge, and then some. Your arm muscles will be so big they’ll grow their own personalities, some of which will be cool, and some not. That’s life.
Fig. 6 — Stomach: Fact: Rock-hard abs are cool. Rock-hard abs covered in soft, downy Sasquatch fur are cooler.
Fig. 7 — Legs: Of course, leg workouts will make your leg muscles bigger. But they’ll also make you run and swim faster. And that will come in handy when a bobcat is chasing you down a mountain.
Fig. 8 — Feet: Running barefoot (it’s the Sasquatch way) will mean your hairy feet will give you better running form — and impressive callouses. Win-win.
