In the upcoming HBO original movie Fahrenheit 451, Michael B. Jordan plays Guy Montag, a “fireman” in charge of burning books in a dark dystopian vision of our future. Adapted from the classic Ray Bradbury novel, the movie may merely seem like science fiction, but the world of Fahrenheit 451 is much closer to our own reality than we’d like to admit. We have a long and scary tradition of burning and banning books, often for completely ridiculous reasons.
