The best sports announcers don’t just call the plays — they bring their own personalities and (occasionally insane) points of view to the game. From Dick Vitale’s “Dipsy-do dunkaroo!” to Chris Berman’s “Back back back back,” sportscasters’ calls and catchphrases can sometimes be less about what they’re saying, and more about how they’re saying it.

But things don’t always go perfectly in the booth — announcers have arguments, accidents, and sometimes everything goes so terribly wrong that all you can say is, “Boom goes the dynamite.” The phenomenon of weird calls has even made its way into TV shows, like Jim Brockmire (played by the great Hank Azaria) declaring, “That ball cannot be buried in a Jewish cemetery, folks, because it just got tattooed!
